Does your heart beat like a jungle drum?

B — Tue, 10/03/2009 - 22:00

I know mine does! 'Jungle Drum', a song by the Icelandic siren Emiliana Torrini - full name Emiliana Torrini Davíðsdóttir - has been getting quite some airplay over here, and its energetic nature forces you to make up your mind about the song - either you like it or you don't. I think it's a great song, and it got me curious, so I started checking out some other stuff of hers. A lot of people like to link her to Björk (honestly, I've never really liked Björk, so for me the only link between them is they're both Icelandic). Her 2008 album, Me And Armini, has gotten real good reviews on my trusted Allmusic - like both her previous albums, for that matter.

I don't exactly know what I like about her songs. I surely like her voice - but the music she makes isn't the kind of music I normally listen to. Yet, I find myself playing her album over and over - which usually means I really like it, I tend to press FFW pretty quickly once songs start irritating me... So it has me intrigued. I haven't had time to check out her first album yet, which is said to be less acoustic, but I plan to do so in the near future. Although her two last albums don't contain anything that comes close to 'Jungle Drum' as for energy, they are very enjoyable. Highly recommended!

Music is an art form whose medium is sound. Common elements of music are pitch (which governs melody and harmony), rhythm (and its associated concepts tempo, meter, and articulation), dynamics, and the sonic qualities of timbre and texture. The word derives from Greek "(art) of the Muses". To many people in many cultures music is an important part of their way to put lighting in their life. Greek philosophers and ancient Indian philosophers defined music as tones ordered horizontally as melodies and vertically as harmonies.
