This is a pretty useless post, but nonetheless I want to congratulate the Americans on their new healthcare bill. It doesn't make it any less socially a third world country amongst the rich nations, but at least there's hope.
Now let's hope the Americans themselves get to see the benefits of a system that costs less and cures more. At least the Democrats have seen the light, now let's hope the Americans themselves get the memo: companies aren't in health insurance because they care. They're in it for the money; to insurers like AIG (after the most recent financial crash their reputation got damaged, so they decided to pick a new name that says even less about what they do - 'Chartis') and other moguls, it's just a business like any other.

There are plenty of occasions on which the US governments - both federal and national - have shown that's not their priority. Some states are less rabid in that regard, but federally...
If you look at countries like the UK (where the NHS makes do with a limited budget) and France (where excellent healthcare is provided and costs are controlled), affordable healthcare for everyone is not utopic. However, that's what a lot of people want Americans to believe.
